Compost is a soil enhancer, soil conditioner and soil fertilizer in one. It improves the overall quality and structure of the soil. And the best part is, compost is relatively easy and inexpensive to make. A good way to make use of kitchen scraps.

You can through weeds in a compost pile to kill the seeds. But make sure that it's hot enough to kill the seeds (150F or higher). Otherwise, it will just grow once you dump the compost in your soil.

Composting is a great art. I pesonally prefer the old fashioned pile method. One has to be careful in contructing the pile so that there is a good mixture of soil, water and air. That way you eliminate the need for turning the pile. I gather all of my materials and layer them in thin layers with a sprinkling of soil thoughout.

If properly constructed the pile will heat enough to kill any weed seeds. After the heating process earthworms will find their way into the pile and finish the job for you.

There is not much that smells as sweet as well made compost.

I was just talking to a friend about composting and how easy it is. It's a wonder why it's not done more often.

Compost is so much more eco friendly and health friendly than chemical fertilizers. Compost is an important part of any garden, thanks for promoting at home composting.
